Made with just 3 ingredients, this homemade Amla Juice is a refreshing drink for any time of the season, especially in winter. The best way to derive the health benefits is to consume it empty stomach. While one may use dried berries, I prefer using fresh amla for this recipe. I love the blend of sugar and salt. This recipe has added no refined sugar but uses maple syrup along with black salt. Amla is naturally tangy and sour and if you like sugary juice, feel free to add white sugar for best results. Ingredients
Fresh Amla- Fresh Indian gooseberry or amla works best. We get fresh Amla in the winter here. If you are in the US, you may find an Indian grocery store. Check for any dark patches. The fruit should be a bit firm and not very soft. It should be green or yellowish-green in color with mild stripes and a transparent look. Black Salt and Black Pepper- This is my favorite combination and be it lemon juice or carrot juice, I always add both together. Feel free to add cumin powder, ginger or ginger powder. Maple Syrup (optional)- While the addition of sugar is optional, adding maple syrup or any sugar helps you avoid the natural sour taste of fresh amla. Water- While I avoid adding any water to juice, for this recipe you might need a cup of water to grind the amlas. If you are using a juicer, you may skip adding water.
How To Make Amla Juice
Step 1 Wash, Dry, and Chop Amla
Wash the fresh amla and dry them with a kitchen towel. Roughly chop them into small pieces and remove the seed.
Step 2 Blend Chopped Amla
In a blender, add chopped amla and a little water (as needed) and blend to make a smooth paste. Step 3 Sieve to Get Amla Juice Use a muslin cloth or a fine-mesh strainer to discard the amla pulp with the back of the spoon and get the juice in a large bowl. Step 4 Serve it. Add black salt, black pepper, and maple syrup, and give it a good mix. Amla juice is ready. Serve fresh!
Serving Suggestions
Serve the amla shots immediately and consume them fresh. I don’t recommend storing this juice. Having up to 20ml amla juice daily is fine. Consuming more amount than recommended can have side effects- acidity, digestive issues.
