Apples: For this apple salad I used Granny Smith green apples that are tart and delicious. Granny Smith apples work great in a slaw or salad because they are firm and hold their shape longer than some other apples. Capers: Capers are reminiscent of the lemony tang and brininess of green olives, but with a floral tartness. They are great when added to salads.

Apple salads can be made in a variety of ways, both sweet and savory. Which apples are best for salad? You want a nice crunchy and firm apple for salads so it doesn’t go mushy. Think apples like Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp. How should apples be cut for salad? If you want to make a slaw, cut them in matchsticks, but you can also dice them or thinly slice them in salads too. Will apples turn brown in salads? Yes but you can prevent this by not prepping the salad too far in advance, or tossing the apples with lemon juice first.
