The Only Sauce You Need

If you’ve ever been to Café Yumm!, you know their original Yumm Sauce is next-level delicious. If not, prepare to have your taste buds blown away with this vegan Yumm Sauce recipe (trust me, it’s every bit as mouthwatering and addicting as the real deal!). With a surprisingly simple mix of ingredients—chickpeas, tofu, nutritional yeast, and the like—the result is the creamiest, richest sauce that pairs perfectly with roasted veggie glow bowls, sandwiches, wraps, and pretty much anything else you can think of. The best part? You can pack all that flavor in with just a quick blitz of the blender (we’re talking less than 5 minutes)! Just throw everything in and mix it into the versatile, protein-rich sauce of your dreams.

Here’s What Goes into This Sauce

All the ingredients in this recipe are so accessible and easy to find! (Exact measurements in the recipe card below.)

Chickpeas: The bulk ingredient in vegan Yumm Sauce is ½ cup of chickpeas (or garbanzo beans). They thicken it and supply a healthy dose of plant-based protein. (Learn more about chickpea health benefits here!) Nutritional Yeast: ½ cup of nutritional yeast will add a savory, cheesy, umami flavor to the sauce (find out where to buy nutritional yeast here.) Tofu: Next, we’ll use ½ cup of silken tofu for an ultra-creamy texture. Along with chickpeas, tofu is a great way to load your sauce with anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Almonds: ¼ cup of sliced (or slivered) almonds adds richness and subtle earthy undertones. Lemon Juice: For the perfect zing, add a splash (2 tablespoons, to be exact) of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Seasonings: As for the spices, you will need ½ teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of curry powder, and 2 cloves of garlic. If you don’t have fresh cloves, you can use ½ teaspoon of garlic powder in a pinch. Chickpea Juice: Finally, we’ll save ¼ cup of chickpea juice (a.k.a. brine) from the can to give the sauce a light, airy consistency!

Making Vegan Yumm Sauce Is Simple

When I say this recipe couldn’t get easier, I quite literally mean that. The only way to make it easier is to… not make it! Step 1: Add Ingredients To A BlenderAdd all the ingredients (except the chickpea juice) to a blender. For the easiest blending, add the tofu and lemon juice first, followed by the chickpeas, almonds, and spices. Step 2: Blitz The SauceBlend everything on high until smooth, and slowly add the chickpea juice until you reach a thick, pourable consistency. That’s it!

Recipe tips

Save The Chickpea Juice: It’s a good idea to reserve a little extra chickpea juice/brine. This way, you can adjust the thickness if needed, especially if the sauce thickens after chilling in the fridge. Experiment With Flavors: To give your sauce even more oomph, add extra seasonings like paprika, cayenne, curry powder, onion powder, or even Sriracha. Get Toasty: For a richer, nuttier flavor, you can try lightly toasting the slivered almonds in a dry skillet for a few minutes before blending.

Use It Like This

When a sauce is this good, the rest of the meal simply becomes the vehicle. Here are some delicious “vehicles” that pair well with vegan Yumm Sauce!

Buddha Bowl: Your favorite Buddha bowl isn’t complete without the creamiest, dreamiest sauce around! Tempeh Vegetarian Chili: Add a spoonful instead of sour cream for the perfect final touch. Eggplant Curry: For an extra layer of flavor, add a dollop to your curry.
