What is Mixture

Indian-style Mixture is a traditional savory snack recipe. It is often prepared during Diwali. The mixture is often prepared by combining a few deep-fried snacks.

Why Corn flakes mixture?

Be it afternoon school snacks or tea time snacks or Diwali snacks we always prefer quick and tasty recipes. Traditionally makai poha is deep-fried in oil. This particular mixture version with corn flakes cereal is super quick but has no compromise in taste.

What kind of cereal should I use?

I have used Kellogg’s original corn flakes cereal. Avoid foster flakes. You can use any brand

Should I use coconut oil?

No, coconut oil is just a personal preference. You can use any variety of oil.  Oil is just for tempering. Adjust the quantity according to your taste

Can I skip nuts?

Nuts are optional but it gives a good crunch and taste to the corn flakes chivda. You can add raisins for extra flavor.

Can I skip chilli powder?

Traditionally mixture is prepared with chilli powder. You can adjust the chilli powder according to your taste. I have used  Kashmiri chilli powder. You can make a spicy mixture by increasing chilli powder.

Shelf life of mixture?

The mixture stays good for 2 weeks. Always let all the ingredients cool completely then store them in an airtight container and keep it at room temperature.

Can I add roasted flattened rice?

Yes, you can add according to your taste.

What goes well with the mixture?

1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon coconut oil 2 tablespoon roasted peanuts Curry leaves few 2 tablespoon sliced almonds 10 cashews 2 tablespoon pottukadalai 1 teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala Required salt 2 cups corn flakes

How to make corn flakes mixture recipe with step-by-step pictures

First, add oil and heat

When oil turns hot add cashews, peanuts, curry leaves, and sliced almonds; roast well

Add pottukadalai and mix well

Turn the flame down and add Kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, asafoetida, and salt; quick mix

Finally, add corn flakes; mix gently and turn off the stove
