If you’re anything like me, you have a half-eaten bag of radishes in the bottom of your produce drawer. You might have already put them on a radish salad and made pickled radishes, so what else is there to make? Well, this is the radish recipe to end all radish recipes. Crispy, low carb air fryer radishes, perfect for using up the last of your bunch! When roasted, radishes take on a similar taste and texture to roasted red potatoes.
Your new go-to side dish
Radishes are low in carbs, actually insanely low, and mostly made of water. So, these air fryer radishes make a great alternative to roasted potatoes (they taste like roasted potatoes). There’s very little chopping involved, you just need to cut them in half. Totally vegan thanks to nutritional yeast bringing cheesy and umami flavors alongside staples like salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Here’s what you’ll need
Radishes: I like to buy either radishes from the farmers market with stalks and all or ones already washed and cut. Oil & Spice: And everything nice like olive oil or avocado oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Feel free to get creative and add in some red pepper flakes, cayenne, cajun seasoning, taco seasoning, or fresh herbs like parsley. Nutritional Yeast: This can be found in the baking aisle of the grocery store next to things like almond flour or coconut sugar. If you’re not vegan, you could use parmesan cheese in place of this.
How to make air fry radishes
Making roasted radishes in the air fryer is incredibly quick. I wanted to make sure the process was un-fussy so you could focus on the rest of dinner.
Why this Recipe Works
I know I mentioned radishes have a high water content. Well, this can also make it difficult to make crispy radishes because all the steam escaping tends to soften the vegetable. To avoid this, I did a few things.
Air fry: I know this seems like a no-brainer but air fryers work by shooting hot air all around the food. This constant circulation helps to dry out the radishes better than a traditional oven. Keep the slices in one layer: You might need to work in batches but keeping the radishes in a single layer in the air fryer basket gives the hot air room to move. This creates those crispy edges of the radishes.
Serve it with
