If you love Indian food but thought it wasn’t something easily made at home, then welcome to the club. But, after developing many Indian-inspired recipes, I can confirm that making it at home and making it well is actually possible! With just four ingredients and a blender, you can make mango lassi, probably the most iconic (and easy) Indian treat!
Just 4 ingredients
Mango: You can use fresh, frozen, or canned mango in this recipe. I don’t recommend using ice cubes, even when using fresh mango, because they water down the drink. Yogurt: I love rich, protein-packed Greek yogurt, but you could use regular, low-fat, or even plant-based yogurt in this lassi. I’ve also had success with kefir if you want a stronger punch of probiotics! Milk: A splash of milk will give this mango lassi a nice consistency. Feel free to use your favorite (low-fat, 2%, plant-based, whatever you have!). Sweetener: Honey works well here, but you could also use agave, sugar, or stevia. Maple syrup tends to have a flavor that is too strong for this drink.
It’s easy to make
Making a mango lassi follows the same steps as making a milkshake or smoothie.
how to pick a perfectly sweet mango
If you’re using fresh mangoes, you’ll want to make sure they’re very sweet. Look for one that’s speckled with red and orange. Give it a gentle squeeze, and it should be slightly soft—that’s a perfectly ripe mango!
make this lassi vegan
To enjoy a vegan version, swap the honey for agave and the yogurt for a plant-based low-fat yogurt.
