Gone are the days of too tough or too soft leftover pizza, where the cheese is no longer “cheesy,” and the bread tastes stale and bland. Why subject yourself to that nonsense when you can simply transform the leftovers into French toast pizza instead? This trick revives the crust, turning it into savory French toast that’s super moist, fluffy, and cakey. You may just find that you like French toast pizza even more than the fresh pizza you had the night before!

you just need 4 ingredients

You don’t need much to transform your pizza into something that’s a bit more acceptable to munch on for breakfast!

Liquid Ingredients: Like most standard French toast batters, this one is made up of eggs and milk. Feel free to use any milk you like. Spices: Because this is a savory French toast, we need to add both salt and pepper to the batter. Pizza: The good news is that this can be done with any pizza flavor. Leftover green pepper and onion slices? Perfect. Leftover cheese or (vegan) pepperoni slices? Throw ’em in. Red sauce or white sauce, the pizza sauce doesn’t matter!

here’s how to make it

Have you ever made French toast? This French toast pizza recipe uses the same exact steps. It’s easy and takes less than 15 minutes. Step 1: Prep The Egg MixtureIn a shallow dish wide enough to fit a slice of pizza, whisk together the egg, milk, salt, and pepper until evenly combined. Step 2: Dip The LeftoversNext, dip each slice of pizza in the egg mixture, holding it in to allow the crust to soak up the egg. Be sure to coat both sides. Step 3: Sauté The PizzaGrease a large sauté pan and set it over medium heat. Add each dipped pizza slice, cooking for about 3 minutes per side or until the outside is golden brown.

Extra Flavor

While I definitely recommend French toast pizza as-is and with whatever toppings were already on it, that certainly does not mean that you can’t add extra flavor. Double ToppingsYou can add more of your pizza’s toppings, such as extra green bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, or other veggies! Cold CheeseIf you’ve never tried the magic that is cold cheese on pizza, try it! After making your French toast, sprinkle on some fresh, straight-from-the-fridge shredded fresh mozzarella or parmesan cheese for some seriously yummy tastes. Maple BaconAdd your favorite vegan bacon crumbles for an extra breakfast-y taste. Then, take it the extra mile with a maple syrup drizzle! YUM. This is super yummy with Hawaiian pineapple pizza or anything with prosciutto.

what to serve with your savory French toast

This can be served with anything you’d serve normal French toast with, like:

Breakfast Fruit Salad: I love enjoying French toast pizza with fruit for a sweet and savory combo. This is super great if you’re serving a crowd after a night at a cabin or rental and have leftover pizza. Sheet Pan Eggs: If you’re already using eggs, whip up these sheet pan eggs for added protein for breakfast! Vegan Breakfast Sausage: This sausage is one of my favorites, and it’s superb with French toast (sweet or savory)!
