Dates are grown all over southern California, and because they have quite literally the sweetest fruit, they make the perfect naturally sweetened milkshake for those 100+ degree days in the desert. After a trip to Palm Springs, I quickly became obsessed with date shakes, as do most visitors, I’m guessing. Date shakes are usually made with ice cream, but we’re skipping that ingredient and making a lighter vegan rendition instead! Let’s get shakin!
you don’t need much to make a date shake
With only four ingredients, making a date shake couldn’t be simpler. Jump to the recipe card for exact measurements – this is just an overview!
Almond Milk: This gets frozen into ice cubes to help the smoothie have a frosty consistency without actually adding ice cubes. It’ll also be used to blend the shake. Medjool Dates: As for the dates, you will need just 4 becuase they really are SO sweet. Be sure to remove the pits or buy pitted dates. Vanilla Extract and Salt: Vanilla and salt always help to enhance all the flavors. They are everyone’s favorite hype squad! Cinnamon: For some cozy vibes (and because dates taste an awful lot like caramel), I like to add a pinch of cinnamon for flavor.
