Nothing Beats Homemade!

There’s nothing like a refreshing glass of almond milk to pair with your favorite chocolatey dessert or to dip cookies in! Sure, store-bought versions have their place, but homemade is on another level. Maybe it’s the satisfaction of successfully making it at home, but I think the flavor is what really sets this milk apart. It’s so much creamier and smoother (oh, and completely free from pesky additives and stabilizers). This 2-ingredient, dairy-free recipe uses just nuts and water to create a rich, out-of-this-world almond flavor. I like to add cocoa powder, but there are tons of other ways to customize it. Trust me, once you make your own almond milk, you’ll be hooked!

Here’s What You’ll Need

To make almond milk, you only need two main ingredients. After that, the rest is up to you!

Almonds: First up, you will need 1 cup of raw almonds. I recommend the plain, unsalted kind (like we use in our homemade almond butter)! Water: To help with liquifying the mixture, we’ll add 4 cups of fresh water. Salt: Finally, a pinch of sea salt is great for bringing out the flavor and adding dimension to your almond milk.

How to make almond milk At Home

This recipe makes creating homemade almond milk super quick and easy. In total, it only takes 5 minutes! (Be sure to plan ahead, as you’ll have to soak your almonds for a bit before blending.) Step 1: Soak The AlmondsCover the almonds with water in a bowl and let them soak overnight in the refrigerator. Alternatively, soak them in hot water for 1-2 hours. Step 2: Prepare The BlenderDrain and rinse the almonds, then add them to a blender with 4 cups of cold water. Step 3: Blend The IngredientsBlend the almond mixture on high for 1-2 minutes until the almonds are broken down completely. Step 4: Strain The LiquidNext, strain the mixture through a nut milk bag. Alternatively, you can lay a thin dish towel in a colander and pour the mixture through (just like with homemade oat milk). Step 5: Adjust The FlavorFinally, add a pinch of salt and more sweetener or flavorings as needed. Serve chilled.

Customize It

Feeling adventurous? Jazz your almond milk up with these four easy flavors.

Sweetened: For plain but sweetened milk, use 2 tablespoons of sugar or 2 dates. (You can also combine this with the flavor options below for sweetened versions of those flavors!) Vanilla: Use ½ tsp of vanilla extract for sweet, creamy vanilla almond milk. Chocolate: If you’re in the mood for a bit of chocolate indulgence, use 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Berry: Make a delicious berry almond milk by adding ½ cup of mixed berries to your recipe.
