Published 4/30/2016 • Updated 1/21/2024 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at an event or out at a bar wit no NA options on the menu. While I do drink in moderation, sometimes (like when I’m pregnant) I just want something fun and fizzy that doesn’t have any alcohol. Good news: you don’t need homemade kombucha for this kombucha mocktail recipe! You can pick up your favorite kombucha (can be plain or a flavor) which can be found at your local grocery store. Just puree your fruit, muddle the fresh basil, assemble, and enjoy your delicious kombucha mocktail
What You Need for this Strawberry Basil Kombucha Mocktail
This vibrant and delicious kombucha mocktail requires only 5 ingredients (if you count the ice), making this super simple to throw together. Not a mixologist? No problem, this fermented drink can be made by anyone!
Strawberries: the fresher the better! Orange juice: this adds a tangy kick. Fresh basil leaves: adds an herbaceous note that pairs perfectly with the fruity flavors. Don’t skip it! Kombucha: you’ll need 12 oz of plain kombucha to give this mocktail its bubbly and probiotic goodness. You can use your favorite brand. I’ve made this with plain kombucha, but you can also use strawberry (or any other flavor). Ice: it’s key to keeping the drink cool and oh-so-refreshing.
Variations and Substitutions
Berry flavor: There are so many ways to make kombucha mocktails that it’s basically an art form. If you don’t have strawberries on hand use 1-2 tablespoons of strawberry jam in place of the strawberries. Or, try out different fruity flavors by swapping the strawberries for raspberries or blackberries. Juice: You can also use different types of juice instead of orange, such as lemon or grapefruit. And if you prefer a sweeter drink, feel free to add a splash of honey or agave nectar. Kombucha: We used plain kombucha is used in this recipe, but you can jazz up the flavor of the mocktail by using flavored kombucha. We recommend ginger, lemon, or strawberry. Bubbles: For a more sophisticated version, you can add a splash of sparkling water to the mocktail. This adds an extra layer of bubbles and makes it perfect for any celebration or special occasion.
A Few Serving Tips
Make a large batch: Simply or triple the ingredients and mix everything together in a large pitcher before serving. This is perfect for parties or gatherings. To make a boozy version, simply add your choice of alcohol to the mocktail — vodka, gin, or rum all work well. Just keep in mind that the alcohol will affect the overall flavor and sweetness of the drink.
Storage
This summer strawberry kombucha mocktail can be stored in the fridge for up to 7 days. We placed it in a sealed container or mason jar.
