After spending years studying nutrition, I know just how important it is to start your day with a punch of protein. And while you could eat a cottage cheese omelette, this strawberry smoothie is much faster to make and tastes like a milkshake! It’s a delicious high-protein smoothie made with only five ingredients and provides many essential nutrients (along with 12 g protein per serving). So next time you’re in the mood for a sweet treat that’s healthy enough for breakfast, this strawberry cottage cheese smoothie is where it’s at.
you just need 5 ingredients
The addition of cottage cheese creates a great creamy consistency that seriously makes the smoothie taste like a strawberry milkshake!
Milk and Cottage Cheese: You can use your favorite kind: almond, cashew, cow’s, whatever! Using cottage cheese creates a thicker smoothie while also adding a boost of protein (which helps you stay full for a longer period of time). Frozen Strawberries: I like to use frozen strawberries because they help keep the smoothie nice and icy. If you want to use fresh, feel free! Honey and Vanilla: If desired, add more honey and vanilla, or substitute another sweetener, like maple or Stevia, for the honey.
Smoothie Variations
The best part about this smoothie is that it’s easily customizable and can be switched up to fit your mood.
Different Fruit: You can pretty much use any type of fruit in this recipe! Add blueberries and raspberries for a berry medley, go the tropical route with pineapple or mangoes, or add some banana for extra sweetness. Use Yogurt: Cottage cheese provides some awesome health benefits (think blood sugar levels, heart health, digestion, etc.), which is why I love to sneak it into my smoothies! However, you can also use Greek yogurt if that’s more your style. Go Vegan: You can also swap the cottage cheese with a high protein vegan yogurt and use plant-based milk. Add More Protein: Boost the protein even more by adding chia or flax seeds or by adding a high protein vegetable like spinach, kale, or cauliflower.
