Ingredient Notes:
Fresh Herbs: What really makes stuffing so fantastic is the fresh herbs. For this recipe, I used fresh sage and thyme but if you can’t find them fresh you can substitute for dry just make sure you alter the amount since it’s not interchangeable. A general rule of thumb is to use 1/3 of the number of fresh herbs. Croutons: The key ingredient to a good stuffing recipe is the bread. I like to use boxed croutons or I make my own by drying out simple white bread in the oven.
How to make stovetop stuffing:
To make the stuffing ahead of time: The stuffing can be completely cooked, assembled, topped with butter, covered with aluminum foil, and then put in the fridge overnight. When you’re ready to bake it, take the baking dish out and let it sit at room temperature while you preheat the oven. Then follow the baking instructions above. Leftovers: Store any leftovers in a container for up to 3 days in the fridge.
